About Dr. Hokkanen

Dr. Joel Hokkanen received his D.V.M. degree from the University of California at Davis in 2001. He returned to his home state of Maine and began practice at a busy full-service veterinary hospital. Today, he concentrates on preventive medicine, owner education, and keeping routine care convenient and affordable through his regular wellness clinics.

Dr. Hokkanen lives in mid-coast Maine with his family that includes a golden retriever and two tabby cats.

Practice Philosophy

Dr. Hokkanen advocates a balanced approach to animal health - combining appropriate vaccination with high quality nutrition, an active stimulating lifestyle, and lots of love. Regular veterinary exams and testing (such as annual heartworm/lyme tests) are an important way to catch potential problems early.
